Veteran actor Yomi Fash-Lanso says his love for the storyline of Showmax’s First Telenovela Wura enticed him to feature in the series.
The film director and actor, who plays Wura Amoo-Adeleke’s husband, shares that it is important that a platform like Showmax is telling such important stories.
Wura tells the story of Wura-Amoo Adeleke, a perfect wife, a loving mother of two, and the ruthless Chief Executive Officer of the fictional Frontline Gold Mine. The 260 episodes series features cast members like Scarlet Gomez, Yomi Fash-Lanso, and Ego Iheanacho.
“This is a story that should have been told many years ago, but I’m glad that we are having it now. It’s never too late. We need more of this. I’m in love with the story, I want to give it my all, and I want to preach it,” Yomi Fash-Lanso told Netng.
Ego Ogbaro, a co-actor and veteran singer, also shared that she connected with the story and felt good about it, which is why she took the role.
“I won’t say I chose Wura, Wura chose me. It found me. That opportunity just came. You know when you just connect to something and feel good about it,” she told Netng.
Showmax’s Wura was set in Iperindo, a community in Atakunmosa East local government in Osun State, where gold was first discovered in 1945. The community, despite sitting on a gold deposit worth over $5 billion in 2017, is plagued with poverty and a lack of basic amenities, including access to potable water, motorable roads, and functioning health facilities.
