ViacomCBS Networks Africa presenter, Nnenna ‘Nenny B’ Egwuekwe will moderate a panel session at the MTN Anti-Substance Abuse Programme (MTN ASAP), which takes place on Friday, June 25, 2021.
The event, organised by MTN Nigeria in partnership with Netng, Hip TV, Business Day, MTV Base and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), is in commemoration of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, also known as ‘World Drug Day’ which is observed annually on June 26.
A 2018 survey by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) says the number of drug users in Nigeria is estimated at 14.4% or 14.3 million people aged between 15 and 64. Close to 3 million Nigerians live with some level of drug dependence.
This is part of the reasons why MTN Nigeria is partnering with other stakeholders “to stimulate discourse among thought leaders and policymakers from different walks of life, to bring us much closer towards our goal of freeing our future leaders from the evil attraction of drugs and possible addiction to opioids,” says Prince Julius Adelusi-Adeluyi, Chairman, MTN Foundation.
Nenny B will moderate a panel that features TV Host and compère Biodun Laaro; MTN Yello Star winner DOTTi; and award-winning artiste, Joeboy. They will discuss addiction and how proper knowledge of drugs can save youths from the trap of addiction. The webinar titled ‘Share Facts On Drugs, Save Lives’ will also feature candid discussions about drugs and substance abuse from doctors, psychologists, activists and former addicts. The webinar will be moderated by music artiste and anti-abuse campaigner David Jones David.
Some of the keynote speakers at this year’s panel include Odunayo Sanya, the Executive Secretary of the MTN Foundation; Tony Rapu, Senior Pastor, House of Freedom; Bada Akintunde-Johnson, Country Manager, ViacomCBS Africa; Maymunah Kadiri, founder, Pinnacle Medical Services; Oliver Stolpe, Country Representative, Country Representative, United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC); and Olawale Eso, a young Nigerian recovering from drug abuse.
The event is focused on building a dynamic platform that will enable young Nigerians to participate actively and contribute to in-depth conversations about substance abuse and addiction.
