The title of this piece should have been ‘How Wizkid, Olamide and Davido dominate the Nigerian Music Industry’, but most of you won’t open the link because it’ll sound like an academic report.
But now that I have your attention, let’s get to it!
You don’t need to be a prophet to see how the trio of Olamide, Wizkid and Davido have dominated the Nigerian pop scene in the last 3 years and the fear that their dominance MAY continue for a long time has been expressed is some quarters.
Just so you don’t get bored with ramblings and thoughts of a pundit, let’s call on the NUMBERS to help out (as they say, numbers don’t lie).
Between the 3 of them, they have;
8 Albums
7 Endorsement deals
22 Years of Professional Career
66 Awards
54 Collabos: Between the 3 of them, they have featured on 54 songs in 6 months (Between October 2015 to March 2016)
And of-course they have countless HIT songs to their credit.

So, back to the story!
Ever Wondered How They Stay On Top?
For these guys, they’ve been able to consistently prove that staying on top requires what I call the 3Cs; Creativity, Consistency, and a lot of Controversies (a language they all understand). You might need to include Hardwork in the mix as well.
How they deal with competition!
A popular saying goes ‘I destroy my enemies when I make them friends’. This is exactly how this trio deal with competition.
They draw you close, make friends with you and write themselves into your glory/story.
Classic examples includes: In 2015, Davido tweeted at Kiss Daniel saying he wanted to be on the remix of his monster hit song ‘Woju‘. He repeated it with Humblesmith on ‘Osinachi‘.
Olamide did the same to Ycee when he hoped on Jagaban
Wizkid willingly made a cover version of Kiss Daniel’s ‘Good Time’.
In all these examples, you’ll see how they go for it, how they keep themselves in our subconscious.
To further cement their legacies, these 3 stars are investing in the future. They all have their own record labels (YBNL, HKN and Starboy) and have all signed young and upcoming acts. As they nurture there rising stars, they build a legacy for themselves.
These dynamic trio have over time proven that they understand the business and they seem ready for any of its challenges.
