While the 2021 Grammy awards was a hit for some artistes, a couple of others left the event empty-handed. Here are some notable nominees who failed to walk home with the coveted trophy.
Jhene Aiko had a long night at the Grammys last night. She hosted the Premiere ceremony where Burna Boy and Wizkid picked up their first awards. The night grew longer as the 32-year-old lost in all three categories she was nominated. She received nominations for Album of the Year, R&B Performance, and Urban Contemporary Album.
BTS also suffered a loss, failing to make history, as the first K-pop act to win a Grammy award. Their fan base, BTS Army, refused to believe that the band could have lost the Best Duo/Group Performance award to Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande’s Rain on Me and took to social media to call out the Grammys. They made the hashtag ‘Scammys’ trend worldwide alongside ‘Light it up BTS’ and ‘BTS Our Greatest Prize’.
Doja Cat also didn’t take home a win in any of the categories she received nominations. But she brought a futuristic and highly energetic performance of her smash hit Say So to the Grammys stage. She received nominations for Record of The Year, Best New Artist, and Best Pop Solo Performance.
Roddy Ricch and Da Baby, who received four nominations each, also failed to win any awards. They, however, shut down the Grammy’s stage with their brilliant performances. Their ‘Rockstar’ song that gave Da Baby three nods and Roddy two nods didn’t win in any category.
We can only look to see if any of these ‘losers’ will make a significant return just like Burna did this year after he lost to Angelique Kidjo during the last ceremony.
