Nollywood actress, Mercy Johnson Okojie has been appointed as the Senior Special Assistant to the Kogi State Governor, Yahya Bello. Congratulations ma.
And Your Excellency, congratulations on appointing 54 assistants to ‘assist’ in the very difficult task of governing the state. Some people are complaining about the number. But to us, 54 is not that plenty.
Kogi Government Appoints 54 Senior Special Assistants and 9 Special Assistants. Oga oh.
Offices. Cars. Overheads. Salaries. Recession?

We have just one question: what work will the SSA be doing?
Is it to bring fellow Nollywood stars to the state?

Maybe it’s to build cinema there sha

No, no it’s film village

Because entertainment, arts and tourism are exactly what Kogi people need

All the workers are paid on time

They have fantastic schools and hospitals

As in people fly into Kogi to visit the River Niger and Lord Lugard’s house

If you go to Kogi ehn, it looks like the abroad

Abeg abeg abeg!

Kogi State is one of the most underdeveloped states in Nigeria. The state has been mired in poverty since it was cut out of Kwara and Benue in 1991.
The political climate has also been volatile – they’ve had six governors since Nigeria’s return to democracy.
But as it is common with Nigerian politicians, cronyism and token appointments like this is what governance means to them.

Only few weeks ago, the loud critic of the governor claimed that a whopping N1.5b has been spent on a ‘verification exercise’ for the state’s workforce. Guess who the critic is:
The one and only Senator Dino Melaye.

Kogi people, una well done o!
