
It’s a brand new year and across the world, various countries took turns to celebrate the occasion as their time zones allowed.
As there are countries, so are there different ways such countries chose to welcome in the new year.
Lagos, Nigeria

The popular saying ‘There’s no party like a Lagos party’ proved to be no myth on New Year’s Eve. Let’s just say, New Year’s Eve in Lagos took eight days. The One Lagos Fiesta started on Christmas Eve and climaxed in the early hours of January 1. Featuring dozens of performances across five centres within Lagos State, the new year was welcomed with a fantastic fireworks display at the Victoria Island venue of One Lagos Fiesta. The event brought together millions of Lagosians together in a way that had not been seen before and will long be remembered.
Auckland, New Zealand

As always, Auckland, New Zealand was the first major city to welcome a new year.
For this year, there was a huge pyrotechnic displayed in the city that used over 500kg of fireworks and over 10km of wire.
Sydney, Australia

For Sydney, its iconic Harbour Bridge was bathed in the lights from a seven tons firework display, which also paid tribute to the late US singer Prince, by glowing purple.
Seoul, South Korea

South Koreans are celebrating the New Year differently, calling for their president Park Geun-hye to step down and setting off fireworks near the presidential house.
Tokyo, Japan

In Japan, New Year’s Eve is usually spent with family although there are usually shows with fireworks or balloons at public places.
