Prince’s only biological sister, Tyka Nelson accepted ‘Purple Rain’ award win at the 2016 American Music Awards in Los Angeles.
During her touching acceptance speech, she said: ‘Prince defied the odds, a black teen from Minneapolis with a goal to electrify the world. He had the courage to be different. With his vision, and God-given talent, he is still one of the world’s most respected and loved artists. What he told me was that he wanted to be known as the world’s most prolific songwriter. And with 984 titles to his credit and counting, he has done just that.’

In April 2016, the album, the sixth studio work of the American singer and originally released on June 25, 1984, returned to the chart at number two on the Billboard 200 after Prince’s death, selling over 69,000 copies in the following week. And in October 2016, it was confirmed that Purple Rain would be re-released as a deluxe edition.
The Purple Rain Soundtrack, which also won two Grammy awards in 1985, has sold over 22 million copies worldwide, becoming the sixth best-selling soundtrack album of all time.
