The Ogun State Police have issued an official wanted notice for controversial singer Portable, following allegations that he assaulted officials from the Ogun State Planning and Development Permit Authority (OGPDPA) earlier this month.
The incident took place on February 5 when OGPDPA officials arrived at Portable’s bar to enforce regulations, including sealing the premises due to the lack of approved permits and insufficient air space. What followed was a violent confrontation in which Portable, reportedly leading a group of attackers, assaulted the unarmed officials. Although injured, the officials managed to escape the scene.
In the aftermath, nine of Portable’s associates were arrested and charged with five counts, including armed violence, felony, obstruction, assault, and attempted murder. They were granted bail of N5 million each, with sureties who are registered bond agents approved by the state government. The case has been adjourned until March 17 for further hearing.
According to Omolola Odutola, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, multiple invitations were sent to Portable requesting his appearance at the police headquarters in Abeokuta. However, the singer allegedly ignored these requests, failing to provide any legal representation. This repeated evasion prompted the police to seek a court order, officially declaring him wanted.
The police have urged the public to assist in locating the singer, warning that anyone found harboring or aiding him will face legal consequences. “We strongly advise anyone with information about his whereabouts to come forward,” the statement reads. “Those assisting him will be held accountable under the law.”
In a recent turn of events, Portable sought legal assistance from renowned human rights lawyer, Femi Falana. He also made public appeals to President Bola Tinubu and Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, pleading for intervention and forgiveness in the ongoing matter.
