Even the weather felt sober on Friday, July 11, 2014, when the remains of late singer, Irikefe Obareki Momoh, popularly called Kefee was laid to rest at her Okpara Inland hometown in Ethiope East Local Government of Delta State.
The burial, attended by family members, colleagues and fans, was their chance to say a final farewell to the talented singer. It began at about 12 noon with a homecoming service held at Akpevweoghene Educational Centre, where people took turns to praise the late singer.
Before the arrival of the body, almost a hundred community youths loitered on the streets, dancing to some of her songs. At about 12:45 pm, when the body arrived, their dancing gave way to tears. Some of them stood silently while a few other others wailed as they watched the pallbearers bring out the body from the hearse and hand it over to the family members, who took it to one of the classrooms where her husband, Teddy Don-Momoh and a few clergymen prayed. The prayer session was quickly followed by the lying-in-state and later, the burial.
Prior to the burial, a candlelight session was organized in her honour on Thursday, July 10, 2014 at the Oba Akenzua Cultural Centre, Benin, Edo State, attended by fans and some of her colleagues including Nikki Laoye, DJ Gosporella and comedienne, Princess, all of whom joined Tony Okoroji, comedian, I Go Dye and Azeezat at the burial.
