Brazil football legend, Edson Arantes do Nascimento, popularly known around the world as Pele, has been honoured with a lifetime global ambassador role at Santos, the club where he started his senior career.
The Twitter handle of Pele, who is presently in the hospital recovering from a urinary tract infection that stemmed from an operation to remove kidney stones, announced the development on Thursday, December 4, 2014.
The post was accompanied with a throw back photo of Pele when he first signed for the club as a young player decades ago.
According to reports, the new agreement includes a licensing deal which allows Santos and Pele to create and release products together.
Pelé, who began playing for Santos at 15, was called into the Brazil national team at 16. He spent 18 years at Santos during two spells and helped the club to several trophies.
