Adesola Omidina, the son of the late comedian and actor, Babatunde Omidina, popularly known as Baba Suwe, has described the ordeal the family went through when their father was arrested by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.
Baba Suwe died on Monday, November 22, after battling diabetes for years. According to his son, the life of the late actor never remained the same after he was arrested and kept in detention for several weeks.
In 2011, Baba Suwe was on his way to France for a naming ceremony when he was arrested on suspicion of ingesting cocaine by NDLEA operatives. He spent about three weeks in detention before he was ultimately set free by a court in Lagos.
In an exclusive interview with Netng, the son of the comedian said the family suffered after the incident.
He said: “Our family lives have never been the same since the NDLEA ordeal but we thank God for his mercy on us. We never got back on track; it is a long story and so emotional for me.
“I had a very good relationship with my dad. Anytime I travelled abroad, his condition will always send me speeding back home. It’s always about my father; no fun at all. I will miss him as my genetic father and miss him as an entertainer as he was very hardworking and lovely”
Adesola described Baba Suwe as an intelligent man who would be greatly missed for his humour. He said he spent most of his life around his father before his demise.
He said: “I will miss my father’s humour as he is naturally gifted, smart and intelligent. He amuses me anytime we are together and I spent most of my life around him till he gave up the ghost. I will seize this medium to appreciate Uncle Adeboyega Omidina and Mr Gbade Oguntoyinbo.”
