Actor, Romanus Amuta popularly known as Natty, is reportedly battling serious health issues.
The Enugu based actor reportedly had a stroke in 2006, so when the news of his rumoured death came up, it spread in no time until the executives of the Actors’ Guild of Nigeria, refuted the story.
In a chat with our correspondent, the AGN General Secretary, Abubakar Yakub confirmed that the actor has been taken to the hospital for proper medical attention, ‘I just came back from Enugu. He was taken to the hospital on Saturday and has been diagnosed. The tests should come out today after which treatment will commence’ he told us.
The President of the guild, Ibinabo Fiberisima also denied Amuta’s rumoured passing away. On her Facebook page she wrote;
‘I don’t know where the stories are coming from. Uncle romanus(natty) is not dead. He is very well and fine and responding to treatment. Stop the rumor….I just told uncle romanus(natty of new masquerade)he looks better now. he managed a large smile and said “now that I have seen you I am free now and very happy. I am defintely going to get better. Thank you ada’m’, along with a picture of herself and frail looking Amuta.
Photos taken from Amuta’s home show the once vibrant actor in such a distressed state, with the right side of his body paralysed and swollen.
James Iroha (Giringory Akabuogu), Christy Essien-Igbokwe (Apena), Claude Eke (Jegede Shokoya), all of whom he starred alongside Amuta in the comedy series, New Masquerade passed away between 2011 and 2013.
