Nigerian actor Titilope Kuti has emerged winner of the Net Honours 2022 ‘Breakout Actor of the Year’ beating, other outstanding actors, Eso Dike, Akah Nnani, and Chibuzor Iheukwumere who were nominated in the same category, to hold the prestigious award.
Based on verified data, NET Honours is a special recognition award presented to deserving individuals in the Nigerian entertainment industry. For the Awards Class of 2022, NET Honours introduced 15 new voting categories including ‘Breakout Actor of the Year’. Michael Orodare, the Editorial Lead at ID Africa, says, “In seven days, we recorded more than 21,000 votes from fans who chose their favourites in the new categories.”
Born and raised in Lagos, Titi Kuti earned a degree in Industrial Relations and Personnel Management from Lagos State University. He filmed his first TV series, Emerald in 2010.
As an actor, Titi Kuti is well known for his role as Ade Tiger in Netflix’s Original film titled King of Boys (2018) and its sequel King of Boys: The Return of the King (2021). He has also acted in other films including, the African Movie Channel Original Production – Rage (2018).
In the vote for the NET Honours Class of 2022 ‘Breakout Actor of the Year’ category featuring over 7,800 respondents, Titi Kuti polled 36.5% of the fans’ votes. He was trailed by Chibuzor Iheukwumere with 21.5% of the votes, Akah Nnani with 21.3 %, and Eso Dike receiving 20.7% of the votes.
Speaking on the objectives of NET Honours, Femi Falodun, CEO of Info Digital Africa (ID Africa), owners of NETng, Neusroom, 234Star, and Orin, said,
“The platform [NET Honours] is a valuable source of insights for brands, organisations and governments that are trying to understand young Africans and their digital media consumption habits.”
