American NBA star, LeBron James has through his ‘LeBron James Family Foundation’ in collaboration with the Akron (Ohio) Public Schools, launched provided a new elementary school for indigent children in his hometown.
The school called ‘I Promise’ which was opened on Sunday, was established as a place where at-risk students can gain access to education and be given an opportunity to thrive despite difficult family and life situations.
The idea of the school is modelled around the star’s early childhood where he missed much of the fourth grade because of his family’s poor living conditions.
“know these kids… Basically more than they know themselves, I’ve walked those streets, I rode the same bikes they ride on… I went through the same emotions – the good, the bad, the adversity,” LeBron said in parts of a video from the event shared by Instagram handle @uninterrupted
