As the city of Accra gears up to host the 2011 edition of the popular Ghana Music Awards, a surprise treat is in store for them as all three winners of the MTN Project Fame West Africa are set to make an appearance at this year’s edition of the event.
Iyanya – 2008 winner, Mike Anyasodo – 2009 winner and the recent 2010 winner Chidinma Ekile will all leave for Ghana on Friday, April 8, 2011 just in time to appear at the award show, which is going down this weekend.
‘It’s part of the plans to expose and empower our talents’, a spokesperson for the show’s producers says.
The trip to Ghana will also see the trio hang out with past PFWA Ghanaian finalists Nii, Kojo and Kesse.
‘We’re happy to be spending time together, as one family. And we also may take this time to hit the studios and do something together’, Iyanya comments.
Since wining PF in 2008, Iyanya has been to the New York Fashion Week, he has performed across the length and breadth of Nigeria; and collaborated with several top acts. Mike is enjoying the benefits of his debut; and has won many awards – including a Best Video prize from Soundcity Music Video Awards; while Chidinma, the current winner, has been busy recording and working with her management to deliver her debut album.
The trip to Ghana, according to Iyanya, is not just to attend the awards. ‘We’re happy to be spending time together, as one family. And we also may take this time to hit the studios and do something together’.
The group will also spend some time with past PFWA Ghanaian finalists Nii, Kojo and Kesse.
The Ghana Music Awards, according to the artistes’ minders, is not the only event the trio will attend as a group this year. ‘Many more major events are coming. And the idea is that we make sure our best talents are there to represent Nigeria. These acts are our music ambassadors…’
Ghana Music Awards holds on Saturday April 9 at the Conference Centre (The Dome). Nigerian nominees include Asa and Wande Coal.
