That’s how some Nigerians may feel after seeing these wild pictures of how they ‘waste’ tomatoes in Spain.
Tomatoes are so scarce in Nigeria the price has gone up about 900 per cent. The amount of tomatoes Nigerians were used to buying for N50 now goes for as much as N500.
Meanwhile, in far away Spain…people do this…
…a festival that is held in the Valencian town of Buñol, a town located in the East of Spain.
During the festival, participants throw tomatoes and get involved in tomato fights purely for entertainment.
Since 1945, it has been held on the last Wednesday of August, during the week of festivities of Buñol.
As in…since 1945, these guys have been doing this…
It’s so wild…***in Donald Trump’s voice** and so amazing!
And we thought Spain was donating this heap to Dangote’s tomato paste factory which had to shutdown because the red fruit is scarce…

And these La Tomatina freaks applaud the ‘wasteful’ gesture…
Nigerians, who currently groan under the heavy burden of tomato scarcity, could use some of the ‘entertaining’ tomatoes for food.
But no…Tuta Absoluta says no!
Absoluta or absolutatomatina or whatever, this Spanish festival is freaking wild!
So wild they bring the thing in huge trucks…
They turn the streets to tomato pools and swim therein…
They even have divers…
As in tomato divas…
Even a proper diva!
And they take wild selfies while at it!
And get totally wasted!
