Veteran Nigerian media personality IK Osakioduwa has revealed why he did not return as host for the 12th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), ending a hosting streak that began when the awards launched in 2013.

Speaking candidly on The Morayo Show, IK stressed that his absence had nothing to do with any disagreement with Africa Magic, describing it instead as a matter of destiny and personal principles.
“This year, I wasn’t destined to host. I strongly believe in where God has sent you to be and at the time they sent you to be,” he said, adding that his bond with Africa Magic remains strong. “Africa Magic will always be my first love when it comes to media. At least with TV, we are in love with each other, they love me and I love them. So, there was no problem there.”
IK explained that the decision was tied to his personal values, particularly regarding brand endorsements. He revealed that he avoids promoting alcohol or tobacco-related brands—both of which were part of the 12th edition’s sponsorship lineup as Guinness Nigeria Plc made a bold statement on Africa’s biggest creative stage with a first-of-its-kind multi-brand sponsorship of the 12th Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), bringing Guinness, Malta Guinness, Orijin, and Smirnoff together in a showcase of the company’s locally produced brands.

“I have a few principles that didn’t agree with that particular edition,” he said. “I don’t endorse alcoholic brands or tobacco brands. So I wouldn’t have been able to serve properly in that particular edition. I won’t have effectively delivered what they needed.”
Stepping in to host this year were Nigerian comedian Bovi Ugboma and South African actress Nomzamo Mbatha, who brought their own flair to the ceremony.
Over the years, IK Osakioduwa has co-hosted the AMVCA alongside several prominent figures, such as Minnie Dlamini, Bonang Matheba, Zozibini Tunzi, Amina Abdi Rabar, Vimbai Mutinhiri, and David Oke, earning a reputation for his charm, wit, and professional consistency, making him one of the event’s most iconic hosts.
The 2026 AMVCA also celebrated some remarkable winners, with standout accolades going to top talents across Africa’s film and television industry. Among the big winners were Linda Ejiofor, Uche Montana, Sola Sobowale, Bucci Franklin, Kanayo O Kanayo, Uzor Arukwe, amongst others.
