Award-winning media personality, Nancy Isime will host the 14th edition of the prestigious Headies Awards in January 2021 for the second time. She is creating a new ‘Headies’ record with this feat as she is the first-ever woman to host the show twice, and in two consecutive years. She is joined this year by award-winning comedian, Bovi Ugboma who’s making his own third appearance.
Nancy first anchored the Headies in 2019 alongside two-time Headies award-winning rapper, Reminisce. She proved to be a great host and exuded professionalism and grace. She hosted about 70% of the show, covering up the shortcomings of the rapper, who was only hosting a live show that big for the first time.
Nancy started her media career as a model in 2009 after winning her first beauty pageant, Miss Valentine International. She went on to work with some designers like Lanre Da Silva, House of Marie, Konga Online, and Zizi Cardow. She began acting in 2011 when she got a role in a TV show called ‘Echoes’.
She gained more popularity in 2014 after stumbling on presenting through an Ultima studios BTS producer, Lanre, who encouraged her to audition. She got her big break on Hip TV in 2015 while she was working at the studio. Nancy replaced Toke Makinwa as the host of Hip TV’s flagship show, ‘Trending’.
After winning the award for ‘Best OAP (Visual) at ‘The Future Awards Africa’ in 2017, she shared her story via Instagram, saying, ‘from working two shows for Ultima studios, the call from Tolu Akeju came to come test run for ‘HipTv’s Trending’. I got the job to host ‘Trending’, and it dawned on me that maybe this is it’.
Since she took on the job at Hip TV, Nancy’s career has been on a steady upward trajectory. She has featured in about 30 films including blockbusters like ‘Merry Men’, ‘A Trip To Jamaica’, and ‘Living in Bondage’.
Despite all of this growth in her career, Nancy remains faithful to Hip TV, hosting its signature show, ‘Trending’. The owners of Hip TV are the organisers of the Headies Awards.
It is imperative to note though that beyond just being an in-house talent for the broadcast station, the 28-year-old has proven her worth, and is beyond deserving to be hosting the show once again. Her hard work and dedication to her craft over the years have prepared her for this moment, and it is what will help her to be a perfect host for the Headies next year.
Nancy says she’s ‘super excited to announce that I’ll be Hosting the 14th Headies Awards! I’m honoured to be the First Female to not only host the Headies twice but concurrently. I’m even more excited to be hosting with the one and only BOVI! It’s about to be a movie! God is the Greatest’.
If there’s one thing Nancy has succeeded in doing, is proving that she is nothing less than excellent, and we can’t wait to see what magic she and her co-host will bring to the 14th Headies in January 2021.
