It’s 2006, and we get to meet Ebuka Obi-Uchendu in the first-ever edition of Big Brother Naija (BBN) reality show, (then known as the Big Brother Nigeria show). Ebuka was one of the more popular housemates in the show and was well-positioned to take home the grand prize.
Even though he finished in eighth place after being evicted from the show, Ebuka remains one of the most visibly successful ex-housemates from the Big Brother Naija franchise.
At the end of his stint in the Big Brother Naija house, he went on to make a name for himself as an intelligent, insightful, and extremely capable TV host, going on to host a number of shows such as the Glo Show, Friend or Foe on NTA, The Spot on Ebonylife, Rubbin’ Minds on Channels TV, and several others.
By the time the Big Brother Nigeria franchise returned to Nigeria for a second season in 2017, Ebuka had developed himself into the ideal BB Naija host – urbane, witty, charming, and possessing the innate knowledge of how to play the crowd like a maestro.
In fact, if fans of the show are honest, they will admit that besides watching to see which housemate might get to leave or stay, Ebuka’s fashion choices are a major reason they regularly tune in to watch the weekly BB Naija Eviction Night show.
Ebuka has hosted three editions of the Big Brother Naija show and is set to host the fifth edition of the show when it will air in July 2020. His legal background (he is a certified lawyer and was called to the bar in 2005) and TV host experience intersect in his most recent hosting gig, Judging Matters, a Judge Judy-like show where he serves as counsel.
His top-notch work ethic and dedication to his craft has won him a lot of acclaim – he recently won the NET Honours People’s Choice award for ‘Most Popular Media Personality’, and was nominated in the ‘Most Searched Media Personality’ award category.
In an industry that is ridden with scandal, Ebuka has stayed smear-free, marrying the love of his life in 2016, and only breaking the internet with his fashion-forward style choices.
