After the infamous article with D’banj stirred mega controversy in the Nigerian entertainment world, Ebony Magazine have gone ahead to correct the controversial statements allegedly made by the Mo’Hits boss.
Ebony had published an interview with D’banj on March 12, 2012 where he talked about breaking into the US market, signing up and working with G.O.O.D Music but what stood out in the 500-plus word interview was the entertainer suggesting full ownership of the Mo’Hits label and also claiming the responsibility of signing the label’s acts including Kay Switch, Dr. SID, Wande Coal, D’Prince and Don Jazzy himself.
In the original interview D’banj was quoted as saying ‘Coming from Africa I’m my own manager, I have my own label called Mo’ Hits with my artists Dr. Sid, Wande Coal, Don Jazzy, D’Prince and K-Switch. I own Mo’ Hits and we’ve won numerous awards by the grace of God’.
The interview threw the Nigerian media into a frenzy with fans of the Mo’Hits crew chastising D’banj for uttering such. It only added to the on-going controversy between the label bosses who are on the verge of an irreconcilable separation.
But a day later, a spokesperson for D’banj reportedly told blogger Linda Ikeji, the musician never said such, promising to reach out to the Magazine to correct the ‘errors’.
Ebony Magazine never issued an apology, but the article has been corrected.
The updated version now reads ‘Coming from Africa, I’m my own manager, I co-own a label called Mo’ Hits with Don Jazzy and we represent artists Dr. Sid, Wande Coal, D’Prince and K-Switch. I own Mo’ Hits and we’ve won numerous awards by the grace of God.’
The Ebony website did not state that the article had been updated, and the editors did not claim responsibility for the earlier ‘error’ nor did they apologise. They did not respond to our enquiries on the subject.

Awkward…ebony magazine or wht eva u guyz call ursef,NIGERIANS NEED AN APOLOGY!!!
@Andrey,i think u are right. They would not correct the error if they were very sure of what he said. So,i guess the error came frm them for them to update the article. As reputable as they are, they shld av stood their grounds and maintained that D”banj said so if he really did.So its obvious he didn”t say so!
They might not have made any mistake… D’banj might have begged for an update or change of statement
If they truly are a reputable and a foreign magazine with pride and standard, there’s no way D’banj could have begged them.Have u forgotten D’banj is a Nigerian and not an American?Have u forgotten he’s not an American singer? All in one,i don’t believe he said so else the magazine company shld have stood its grounds. We don’t need their silly apology anyway!D’banj was born great and would die great by God’s special grace. In the real sense of it,D’banj owns Mo’Hits anyway,he co-owns it can equally be translated to owning it and if he says Don Jazzy is his artiste,he truly isn’t out of context.Agreed Don Jazzy is the president of Mo’hits and the producer of their songs but hey,D’banj is the main item in Mo’hits,he’s the image of Mo’hits and equally the brand of Mo’hits. If we all understand the true definition of ‘artiste’ and its complexity,Don Jazzy can actually and/or equally referred to as his artiste! However, both D’banj and Don Jazzy have their differing talents and if its God’s wish for them to split,so it shall be!Peace and Out….
@Boom, you made a good point there, Dbanj is a co-owner of MoHits, so is Don Jazzy and they are both artistes under the label, so they are both answerable to one another…
As regards this rumored split- there’s no smoke without a fire! Who has seen the new Oliver Twist video? It speaks volumes. This beef apparently stems from something nobody wants to talk about. Something deeper than we all think. My thoughts though. Anyways, Don Jazzy remains my guy anyday. If he was putting out albums like dbanj and the rest of the mohitz artistes, i guess dbanj wouldnt have been the image of mohitz. For the sake of the other label artistes and the fans too, these guys need to get together. Peace.
Tis obvious D.banj said that and only ran back to plead for correction. Otherwise, Ebony should have been apologizing to him and Nigerians. From the look of things, its a favor they did for him
