Dele Momodu, publisher of Ovation International, has moved to calm public concerns over the ongoing child custody dispute between Afrobeats star Davido and his cousin, Sophia Momodu. The legal matter involves the custody of Imade Adeleke, the daughter Davido shares with Sophia. The former couple welcomed Imade on May 14, 2015, following their brief relationship that same year.
The dispute escalated in 2024 when Davido filed a motion at a Lagos High Court seeking unrestricted access to his daughter. Sophia, however, maintained that she had never denied the singer access. Last week, Davido announced he was withdrawing the case, explaining that he never intended to seek sole custody but rather hoped to establish a structured and peaceful co-parenting arrangement. He also revealed that proceedings took an emotional turn after Sophia’s legal team referenced the tragic death of his late son, a move he described as a “low blow.”
Amid growing public interest, Momodu, who is currently in Liberia, shared via Instagram that he had received numerous messages from concerned fans urging him to intervene. According to him, Davido is highly revered in Liberia and treated like a “god of music.” While in the country to commiserate with former Vice President Jewel Howard-Taylor over the passing of her son, Momodu assured the public that efforts are ongoing behind the scenes to resolve the disagreement. He urged supporters to remain calm and keep all parties involved in their prayers, expressing confidence that “everything is going to be alright.”
