The Copyright Society of Nigeria (COSON) has finally settled their dispute with popular radio station Cool FM.
According to a statement released by the collective rights management organization, the issues between both parties were settled at the COSON headquarters in Opebi, Lagos; both teams agreed on payment of royalties for the musical works and sound recordings broadcast by Cool FM stations across the country. COSON also agreed to withdraw the court action it instituted against Cool FM in June.
At the meeting, Cool FM was represented by Chairman of Steam Broadcasting and Communications Limited, Amin Moussalli while the COSON team was led by its chairman, Tony Okoroji.
In June 2012, Cool FM received a N1bn copyright infringement lawsuit from COSON over unpaid royalties and damages.
A similar agreement was reached in July 2012 with Globe Broadcasting and Communications Limited, owners of Wazobia FM; the sister company of Steam Broadcasting and Communications Ltd.
