French shoe designer Christian Louboutin has won a legal battle to stop his shoes from being used in an anti-Islam advert campaign by the far-right Vlaams Belang party in Belgium.
A judge at the Antwerp trade court recently ruled in favour of the shoe designer, and gave the Vlaams Belang party, a group that campaigns ‘Women against Islamisation’, 24 hours to take down the posters containing the anti-islamic advert.
The poster by the ‘Women against Islamisation’ group shows the bare legs of ex-Miss Belgium turned senator of the party, Anke Van dermeersch wearing the iconic red-soled Louboutins stiletto heels, as she lifts up a black dress.
The poster also shows words imprinted along the naked leg of Anke marking potential skirt lengths, from ‘Sharia compatible’ written at the ankle to ‘stoning’ written high up the thigh.
Although there has been no comment on the ruling from the French shoe designer, Louboutin had earlier made complaints that the anti-islamic ad tarnished his image.
