Bruno Iwuoha was an award-winning actor who said his foray into Nollywood came by accident.
He was born October 1954 and died April 10, 2021, aged 66.
The Director of Communications, Actors Guild of Nigeria, Monalisa Chinda-Coker, said Iwuoha died in the early hours of Saturday in Abuja after a prolonged battle with diabetes.
He was a contractor with the National Fertiliser Company of Nigeria (NAFCON) at Onne in Port Harcourt, Rivers State when he was approached to play a role reserved for an old man with natural grey hair in ‘Lost Kingdom’, his debut movie.
In a career spanning about 20 years, he featured in more than 300 movies, carving a niche for himself as a Nollywood veteran.
In 2007 he won the Best Supporting Actor at the 2007 Africa Movie Academy Awards for his role in “Sins of the Flesh”.
In 2015, he sought Nigerians’ support to raise funds to treat glaucoma and diabetes after losing an eye to the ailments. Shortly after, he was flown to the US for treatment.
Before his death, he was listed as one of the beneficiaries of an appeal fund launched by the Actors Guild of Nigeria in January 2021, aimed at providing urgent medical intervention to ailing Nollywood state and supporting families of deceased actors.
