Ernest Asuzu was one of the ‘baddest’ Nollywood actors of the 90s. It is impossible to name the bad guys of that era without mentioning his name, and he played each role excellently.
On January 27, 2021, his wife rushed him to the hospital after he slumped, but the doctors could not revive him. He was recovering from a stroke he suffered in 2015. He was only 37 years old.
He began his acting career in the 90s and rose to fame in the 1997 Nollywood Classic, ‘Rituals’. For years, he played the toughest, hardest, villainous roles alongside other bad guys like Hank Anuku and Jim Iyke. He was also a musician and went by the name, El Cream’. He was planning a comeback to Nollywood this year. He also released a seven-track album titled ‘The Truth’ in December 2020, only a few weeks before his untimely death.
It would have been an honour to watch him make a major comeback after his eight-year hiatus and health breakthrough. However, we are grateful there are a ton of movies like ‘Another Campus Queen’, ‘The Last Wedding’, ‘Never End’, and ‘The Hustler’s Squad‘ to remind us of his brilliance.
He is survived by his wife and two children and loved by a ton of fans. He’ll never be forgotten.
