Today marks the 49th birthday of American-based nurse and public figure, Regina Askia, who, in addition to being one of the biggest names in the Nigerian movie industry back in the ’80s and ’90s, was also a successful beauty queen.
Regina’s career as a model started in 1988, when she participated for Miss Unilag and emerged winner.
Later that year, she participated in the Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria contest and although she was the preferred candidate, she was named first runner-up.
However, the following year saw the winner, Bianca Onoh resign her position, making Regina the new MBGN.

In 1990, the beautiful leggy model went on to represent the country at the Miss Charm International in Russia, and emerged first runner-up.
She made history when she became the first Nigerian at the Miss International contest held in Japan, earning herself a top spot in the modelling industry as she went on to feature in print and commercials ads.
Her success as an international model opened the doors for a career in acting as well.

Today, Regina is the mother of three beautiful kids and lives in the US with her family, and she remains gorgeous as the day she was born.
Happy birthday, Regina Askia!
