In our recent trivia series, we asked fans of the Big Brother Naija reality show which contestant’s disqualification was the most painful in recent memory. Fans had to choose between Erica and Tacha.
Erica, full name Erica Nlewedim, graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Business from Covenant University in 2013, and graduated from London’s Met Film School in 2019. She successfully auditioned for the 2020 edition of Big Brother Naija, and quickly became one of the season’s strongest contenders. However, she was disqualified after 71 days in the Big Brother house, having received three strikes for multiple infringements of house rules and unruly behaviour. Since her exit from the show, she has seen her profile rise: she currently has 1.6 million followers on Instagram, and she is an ambassador for multiple brands, including Star Radler and Kuda Bank.
Tacha, full name Anita Natacha Akide, graduated with a bachelor’s degree in English from the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Port Harcourt. Between 2017 and 2018, she was famous on Instagram for her blunt takes on relationships, and a huge tattoo of Davido on her chest. In 2019, she successfully auditioned for Big Brother: Pepper Dem and quickly gained notoriety as a controversial figure, having multiple confrontations with other housemates. Nine days to the end of the competition, she was disqualified after a physical altercation with eventual winner Mercy Eke, pulling her by the hair. Tacha’s life after Big Brother has been relatively blissful: she enjoys a loyal fan base – the Titans are really loud – and she is an ambassador for brands like Royal Hairs and GetFitNg.
Of the 240 people that voted, 55 percent (131) were of the opinion that Tacha’s disqualification in 2019 was the more painful of the two, while 23 percent (55) felt that Erica’s disqualification was a lot more hurtful. 22 percent (54) refused to place one over the other.
“Tacha’s own (disqualification) didn’t pain me, but Erica’s own touched me to the bones”, said Grace Evans, who goes by the Instagram account name @muditayo.
“I still get nightmares till this day (over Tacha’s disqualification). Her and Mercy were the only housemates I loved the entire season”, Mercy Otim Oywak, who goes by the Instagram account name @kimnyovest , commented.
