Urban radio station The Beat FM 99.9 and sister station Naija 102.7 FM are set for expansion as they plan to launch brand new stations in West African’s largest city, Ibadan. The news was made known on Thursday, February 2, 2012 via the Beat FM’s Twitter page.
‘Your two favourite radio stations the Beat 99.9 FM & Naija FM 102.7 are expanding. We are launching brand new stations in West Africa’s largest city, IBADAN…’, @THEBEAT999FM tweeted.
Insiders say the management is already searching for new staff for the stations in Ibadan as auditions have been announced.
Owned by Chris Ubosi’s Megalectrics, Beat FM started off in 2008 and has since beaten long timers Cool FM and Rhythm 93.7FM to become the leading urbane music station in Lagos and environs. But Naija FM, the pidgin-only channel which launched about a year ago, is still struggling to find its feet in a market currently dominated by Wazobia FM.
No word yet on whether Classic 97.3 FM, Megalectrics’ third station, is also considering expansion.
