At 7 PM today, the doors to a newly improved Big Brother Naija house will be opened to let in a new set of housemates who will be competing for the grand prize of 85 Million Naira. The reality TV show has continued to set the pace in show business with its unprecedented viewership and ratings. Beyond the entertainment the show serves and the number of Nigerian youth whose lives the show has changed for the better, the organizers of the show have been praised, especially in the last year since the set was relocated to Nigeria, for the number of local talent that the show employs.
The interior and exterior designs of the Big Brother Naija house have always been one of the major highlights of the show, and this season’s decor, much like the last one, was entirely done by local artisans. While the house generally follows the same layout every season, the decoration varies each season to reflect the new theme, and according to the organisers, this season’s is like nothing viewers have ever seen, and it’s all thanks to the builders and artisans who worked tirelessly to bring this season’s theme to life.
A major twist in the layout of the house this year will be the area reserved for the Head of House. This new change will no doubt add an even more intense competitive element to the show this year, as the housemates will no doubt put in extra effort to secure the luxury attached to the HoH title this year.
The house measures about 1800sqm with an additional 250sqm for support building services such as the sick bay and artiste lounges. According to MultiChoice Nigeria’s Chief Executive Officer, John Ugbe, the BBNaija house is the first purpose-built facility in Africa housing all the zones in one complex. Previous facilities had the house, studio for the live shows, production and post-production units all in separate buildings and sometimes in different locations.
The studio for the live eviction shows is also big enough to allow for bigger performances as well as a wider coverage of the stage and sound production. Fans should also expect to have more camera vantage positions in the house to capture even more content with 7x handheld cameras and 32 q-ball cameras that will capture every activity in and outside the house.
The BBNaija show has no doubt made a name for itself as the biggest show in Africa while turning everyday Nigerians to bonafide superstars, but none of this would be possible without the brilliant crew that the organisers employ every year to keep the balls rolling. From the cameramen, to the photographers, sound engineers, builders and so many others, there are hundreds of hands behind the scenes making the show happen. And it’s beautiful to know that a good majority of them are homegrown talent.
Season five of BBNaija premieres today Sunday, July 19, 2020 on DStv channel 198 and GOtv Max and Jolli packages on channel 29 at 7 PM (WAT). If you haven’t renewed your subscription, this is a good time to do that!
