On Sunday, July 31, Lagosians were treated to a night of elite music as fans welcomed the inaugural edition of the Jazz and Old Skool Classics Evening at the Ayo Bankole Centre for Arts and Cultural Expression situated at 32, Yesufu Sanusi Street, Surulere, Lagos.
Put together by Jazz enthusiast and pianist Ayo Bankole, those who attended experienced surreal performances as they also sang along to a couple of 60s and 70s hits from Lisa Stansfield and George Benson. Performers of the night include Ayo Bankole (who the center is named after his father, the famous music composer, musicologist and organist Ayo Bankole Snr), Ben Ogbeiwi, Victor Odetunde, Sunday Aare (who was called upon to play the drums).
Guests in attendance at the event included Makin Soyinka, Kaine Agary, Mr. and Mrs. Gbolly Balogun, Collins Akpapunam, Jahman Anikulapo (Sunday editor – the guardian), the Ibru sisters – Gloria, Elvina and Obukome, Femi Odugbemi, Peter Ibru, Iyabo Aboaba, Efere Ozapo to mention a few.
The Jazz and Old skool classics evening is scheduled to hold every last Sunday of the month.
