As earlier announced by her family, Amy Winehouse’s funeral took place today, Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at Golders Green Crematorium in North London, where her corpse was cremated according to the Jewish tradition. And in regards of her parents’ wish, Amy’s ashes was mixed with that of her grandmother, Cynthia who died of lung Cancer in 2006.
‘Goodnight my angel…Sleep tight. Mommy and Daddy love you ever so much‘, were the last words of Amy’s father Mitchell‘s touching speech. Those present at the very private funeral were family and close friends including Kelly Osbourne, boyfriend and director Reg Traviss and long time producer Mark Ronson.
Confirmed reports also have it that her ex-husband, Blake Fielder – Civil missed her funeral after failing to obtain compassionate leave from Armley Prison in Leeds, where he is currently serving a 32-month sentence for burglary and possessing an imitation firearm. In November 2007, Fielder-Civil was arrested for an attack on a pub manager the year before. Fielder-Civil later pleaded guilty to assaulting barman James King and then offering him 200,000 pounds (US$400,000) to keep quiet about it. Sadly for Amy, reports in British newspapers about her extra-marital affairs while Blake was in jail caused their divorce in 2009.
The Multiple Grammy Awards winning Soul/Jazz Singer, Amy Winehouse was found dead on Saturday, July 22, 2011 at her Camden Square home in Northern London. Known for her compulsive drinking and drug addictions, set-backs that overshadowed her oppressive musical talent, Amy is distinguished by her black beehive hairdo and old-school sailor tattoos.
An autopsy on Monday failed to provide a cause of death for the 27-year-old Grammy winner. Results of further toxicology tests will not be available for up to four weeks.
Born Amy Jade Winehouse into a Jewish family on Wednesday, September 14, 1983 to a taxi driver father, Mitchell and pharmacist mother, Janis Winehouse (née Seaton), she had an adorable voice. At age 10, she formed a rap group, ‘Sweet ‘n’ Sour’ with her friend. She debut in 2003 with ‘Frank’, the album which was sold pretty well in Britain.
