As the 2015 edition of Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA) takes the centre stage tomorrow, March 7, 2015 in Lagos, the Best Actor in a Drama award is one of the main categories that industry observers are focusing on.
Nominees in this category at the forthcoming event are: Gideon Eche Okeke (A Place in the Stars), IK Ogbonna (Honeymoon Hotel), Mike Ezuruonye (Unforgivable), Wole Ojo (Brave), OC Ukeje (Secret Room and Confusion Na Wa), and Adjetey Anang (Devil in the Detail).
The hot favourites in this category are OC Ukeje and Mike Ezuruonye (since it’s a viewers choice award mainly based on popularity) but that does not rule out Gideon Okeke and Wole Ojo.
Mike’s display in Unforgivable leaves no one in doubt why he’s so highly rated in the Nigerian film industry while Gideon is beyond convincing in his role as Dakim in A Place in the Stars.
On his own, Wole Ojo is still receiving rave reviews for his remarkable acting in Brave but one man seems to stand out in this category and it will be quite a surprise if he doesn’t nick this award this year; OC Ukeje. Besides the fact that he is unarguably one of the very best ‘new generation’ actors in Nollywood, who seems to be able to flow into any character with seamless ease, OC is nominated twice in this category for two different movies.
It is believed that his captivating performance on one or these movies (or even both) should be good enough to crown him the Africa Magic actor’s crown for 2015.
