The Nigerian entertainment space has come a long way from where it started, but there’s still much work to be done. The future is bright, but there’s currently no blueprint for building the industry of our dreams.
At the Nigerian Entertainment Conference (NECLive) which was held on Sunday, April 25, 2021., several stakeholders came together to speak on how to build a better industry for the future. Ayo Animashaun, CEO, Smooth Promotions and Founder, Hip TV also spoke about how to close the gap between our entertainment sector and other entertainment sectors around the world by working together.
He said, “Nigeria has about 200 cinemas, mostly concentrated in Lagos, Ibadan, Port Harcourt and Abuja. India has 13,000 cinemas, while the United States has a whopping 40,000 cinemas. Our musical talents have changed the whole world with a sound no one can ignore. Our creative professionals are bright and determined and are all pulling the right stops and the right strings to make sure the industry continues to grow. But the challenges are massive, big, and gigantic.”
He continues by asking a series of questions, “how do we build the future of our dreams? How do we develop honours events like the Grammys, the Oscars, the Emmys? How do we raise the right infrastructure to support the big ideas that we have in the industry? How do we move from where we are to where we should be?
He then concludes by reminding everyone that the change we want will only come by working together. He says, ” all of us can make the change that the industry truly deserves. It’s time to build the future. Let’s start”.
