This week comes to an end with new music releases to help get us through the weekend. From dance tunes to heavy rap tracks, here are six new songs you should be adding to your playlist.
1. Chike – Nakupenda (Sigag Lauren Mix) ft Ric Hassani
This is off his just-released EP, Dance of the Booless, which comprises of EDM/Dance remixes of some songs from his album ‘Boo of the Booless’. If the original song made you feel loved, then this remix is sure to have you grooving along. The EDM/Dance community is making strides in Nigeria and this song and the EP is proof of that.
2. Master KG – Jerusalema Remix ft Burna Boy & Nomcebo Zikode
On this remix, Burna shows us exactly why he is called the African Giant. Combining Zulu, Yoruba and English, Burna shows us the soulful side of him on this beautiful track. South African singer, Nomcebo also thrills us with her sonorous, powerful vocals that go straight to your heart.
3. Cruel Santino – End of the Wicked ft Octavian
Formerly known as Santi, Cruel Santino sings of deliverance from a metaphorical toxic relationship. He employs the quick jab-like flow of French-British rapper, Octavian, to pull this off. His name change came as a result of copyright issues which he explained in a tweet. From Ozzy B to Santi to Cruel Santino, though the name may change, the artistry remains the same. And hopefully, we get some new songs sooner.
4. Rema – Ginger Me
Rema sings of the object of his fascination on this new song. He sings of a girl whose love has become his driving force, which also seems to be his first love. We seem to be the witnessing first steps of a young man in love, as he promises to be with her forever.
5. Teyana Taylor – Killa ft Davido
On this smooth track off her new album called ‘The Album’, Teyana and Davido sing of a woman who is badass, secure in her own power and not afraid to seek out what she wants. Teyana is no stranger to working with Nigerian talent as she jumped on Seyi Shay’s ‘Gimme Love Remix’ last year. And Davido is keeping a healthy stream of international collaborations coming in, whetting the appetite for his upcoming album, ‘A Better Time’ in July.
6. Prettyboydo – Wetin You Smoke ft Olamide
Off his recently released EP ‘Wildfire’, he teams up with Olamide in what can be considered a rebel hustler’s anthem. The song speaks on past situations and dismantling existing barriers in the music game. In an interview with The Fader, Prettyboydo describes the project as pains of the past. He also wants to burn down the industry’s principles, because those principles do not recognise and uplift young talented artists. Armed with new music, Prettyboydo is ready to set it all aflame.
