Now is not the time to buy iPhone 5, 6 or 7. The dollar to naira rate has only worsened and all of us Lagos Big Boys have had to make do with affordable (read cheap) smartphones. No wonder a certain moviemaker went to a phone shop and ‘accidentally’ forgot nine brand new iPhones in his pocket.
But there is a solution: move to Angola!
The Technology Price Index, a report that compares the prices of gadgets around the world says that the oil rich southern African nation has the cheapest iPhones among the 72 countries analyzed: only $401 (N126,214).
Ironically, the country with the highest cost of the devices is Venezuela which in spite of its oil reserves, is going through the worst recession in its history and has made the item practically impossible to purchase- it retails there at $50,000. The average cost of an iPhone in the US is $625 (N196,718).
But here is the problem: the cost of airplane ticket to Angola is N400,000. Is it not better to kuku keep buy a London-used phone and be glowing with pride?
