Nigerian rapper Okafor Victor, popularly known as Mr Real, has publicly apologised to music star D’banj following the controversy surrounding comments he made about the singer’s Creative, Reality, Entertainment, Arts and Music (CREAM) platform.
The issue began after Mr Real claimed that the CREAM platform could not afford to offer him a ₦20 million ambassadorial deal, a statement that quickly sparked backlash across social media. The remark drew strong reactions from fans and industry stakeholders, with many questioning its accuracy and intent.
In response, Pelumi Olajengbesi, legal counsel to D’banj, filed a petition against the rapper, accusing him of criminal defamation. The petition also requested that a magistrate issue a criminal summons against Mr Real. Following the filing, the court ordered the rapper to appear on January 19 to respond to the allegations. The magistrate further granted an interim injunction restraining him from making any further statements about D’banj or the CREAM platform pending the outcome of the case.
Amid the legal proceedings, Mr Real took to Instagram to issue a public apology, admitting that his comments were based on a misunderstanding and misinterpretation of the situation. In an emotional video message, he acknowledged D’banj’s impact on his life and career, describing the veteran entertainer as a father figure and mentor.
“This video is an apology to my boss, D’banj,” he said. “I misunderstood and misinterpreted some things concerning the CREAM platform, and I want to sincerely say I am very sorry.”
Mr Real went on to express deep remorse, asking for forgiveness and reaffirming his respect and loyalty to the singer. “You have played a big role in my life and career. I still have love and respect for you. You are like a father and mentor to me, and I am truly sorry,” he added.
The rapper also pledged to fully cooperate with the ongoing legal process and confirmed that he had withdrawn his earlier comments. In an accompanying caption, he said he regretted the tone and public nature of his remarks and expressed his desire to resolve the matter privately.
“I hold D’banj in the highest regard, and I apologise for how the situation was handled,” he wrote. “I have withdrawn my comments and will not make further public statements on this matter while cooperating to resolve it amicably.”
