Thanks to two strikes from forward Emmanuel Emenike, the Super Eagles of Nigeria escaped a costly defeat from the hands of the Walia Antelopes of Ethiopia.
The Super Eagles who were playing away went down 12 minutes into the second half when Ethiopia midfielder Behailu Assefa put the ball at the back of the net. The Antelopes should have been two goals up with Assefa’s strike if an earlier first half strike had been counted.
But 11 minutes after conceding their first goal, Emenike pulled one back for Nigeria in the 68th minute and then scored a late minute penalty to secure a win.
Nigeria is currently ranked 36th in the world and 4th in Africa, with the Antelopes 93rd in the FIFA rankings and 25th in the continent.
