‘Death is the best thing that can ever happen to a rapper. Almost dying isn’t bad either’ – Kanye West, 2004
Death sure has an unexpected way of surfacing and snatching our friends, families and people we know from us, never to be seen again. Its effect is something we dread as humans and never really want to come to terms with.
The recent deaths of stand-up comic CD John and Koko Mansion finalist Chidinma still sends shudders down our spines as we were all bewildered by the sudden end of these two bright and young individuals who lost their lives in similar fashion – ghastly motor accidents.
So, when rumours started spreading, early this week, that R&B singer Emmanuel Nzemeke popularly known as Kaha was involved in an accident, friends and fans resumed prayer sessions for the Benin born singer. Social networks Facebook, Twitter even BBM went haywire over the news as different stories kept popping up from all over.
The story was that Kaha, who was in South Africa for a video shoot had in the late night of Saturday, April 2, 2011 been riding along with a friend when the car had an accident and that he was in a coma. A couple of phone calls made within the country confirmed the supposed car crash, increasing the concerns.
Within an hour, Kaha had started ‘trending’ on twitter, his follower count started increasing and his Facebook page was bombarded with condolences and worrisome questions. Would this be a third automobile accident that would cost the life of an entertainer in succession?
The small-scale chaos continued for hours until the man in question Kaha, took to his twitter account to drown all fears. He was actually as fit as a fiddle and had not been involved in the accident that actually took place, although he had been in the car prior to the incident. Fans and friends expressed their joy as they heard the good news; Kaha was looked upon as a hero who had cheated death even though he never met ‘it’.
Kaha who started out, as an artiste in the late 90s has not quite tasted the success like his counterparts over the years. With two albums already released, he has not quite established his career as much as he would want to. With the accident rumours pushing him in our faces again, could this be the perfect recipe to make a comeback, as he is set to drop his third album? (Think 50 cent with nine shots, 2face and the robbery attacks).
The logic isn’t that hard to figure out. He has everyone talking about him being involved in an ‘accident’ and ‘coma’. As his name is on almost everyone’s lips, will he ride on the recent publicity to make that ‘record’ that will amplify his career?
