Yesterday, we reported that Nigerian music video director, filmmaker and cinematographer, Clarence Peters is in Kenya to work with 2014 MTV EMA (Best African Act), Sauti Sol on new projects for their upcoming 3rd studio album, Live and Die in Afrika.
Already, he’s shot two music videos in 10 locations for the pop group and at a press conference organised at the Best Western Premier hotel, Nairobi, Clarence spoke on how he got to work with Sauti Sol.
‘We had a conversation about this with Sauti Sol 2 years ago but since then the group has grown. It has gotten a lot stronger. Now Nigeria knows who Sauti Sol are. I had to catch up on their individual styles and personalities to best shoot the video,’ he said.
He also defended claims that the music videos he has shot for Kenyan artistes in the past are inferior with work he has done with Nigerian acts, saying: ‘That hurts because, as much as I would like to argue and say it is not me, it is me. This is because I had not been given the right materials to shoot. I did not take time to scout the locations. Now, these two music videos with Sauti Sol has seen me push myself.’
Sauti Sol acts were present at the conference and they gave a hint as to what to expect from the new album as well.
‘The album celebrates the life in the continent, and keeps in touch with how we began our music career, but mostly the album is about getting it right, musically.’
The album is a 15-track but the group did not announce any specific date of release.
