Why CD John Was Buried Quietly

Very close friends joined select colleagues and family members to send off the late comedian CD John on Wednesday April 20, 2011.

Why, considering the outpouring of emotions from all quarters when the comedian passed away, was it not an all-comers affair? Why was the burial not publicised and major media notified?

Because those who took the decision wanted to avoid drama much as possible. They wanted it over and done with, without any ado – especially considering the controversy that was already surrounding his protracted stay at the mortuary. The late comedian was in the morgue for almost one month. He died on Thursday, March 24,2011 and his corpse was deposited at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) mortuary in Ikeja same day.

Reports were already surfacing in some newspapers and magazines, of how the comedian’s mother was complaining that his colleagues had ‘abandoned’ him while many observers were also condemning the idea of keeping his corpse in the morgue for too long.

Comedienne Princess and Ali Baba allegedly led the team of colleagues who finally decided to come together and give the deceased a befitting burial.

He was buried at the Atan Cemetery in Yaba-Lagos on Wednesday, April 20, 2011.

‘I’m sure it wasn’t even planned to be a secret or something private. But because of the short timing and the fact that no one wanted any drama; it just happened that most people didn’t get to know’, one of the comedians tell Nigerian Entertainment Today (NET).
