So when the Jamaican sprinter met the American singer, he was of course dumbstruck.
‘I was excited to meet Beyoncé. I’ve always had that conversation in my head. You know exactly what you’re going to say to somebody, and then you meet them and you’re like, ‘Oh my God.’ She’s the only person I’ve been dumbstruck by. In my head I was always going to say, ‘Hi, my name’s Usain. You don’t know, but I’ve had a crush on you for years. You’re very beautiful.’’ he told the Guardian.
Usain, the ever consummate professional and performer however lost his composure when the moment came.
‘I said ‘Hi.’ Just ‘Hi.’ That was it. It was an awkward moment. And I stared for a minute, and she looked at me like, ‘Oh my God.’ And walked away.’
