With auditions still underway for the MTN Y’ello Star premiere season which is expected to kick off soon, the question on the lips of many has been who the judges on the project will be. With more people showing curiosity, entertainment pundits have posited that some of the artists who have worked with the telecommunications giant in the past are likely to be selected for the role on the Y’ello Star project. If this proves to be true, here are our top nominees.
Banky W
Banky W was an MTN ambassador from 2014 to 2016 and has successfully transitioned from an artist to a record label executive, mastering the art of making good music and the business of music. With a remarkable eye for discovering fresh talent, Banky W has discovered stars like Wizkid, Niyola, Skales amongst others.
Praiz
Kogi State native and RnB musician, Praiz rose to fame following his participation in MTN Project Fame. Being a product of a talent hunt project, he may be best suited to understand the contestants’ state of mind. Known for his charm and wit, it will be interesting to see if the ‘Rich and Famous’ singer will be able to tell some hard truths.
Simi
Beyond having an amazing voice and a sizable collection of tunes, Simi has some experience with music production and judging from her personality, she will be the type of judge to be deeply invested in the growth of the contestants. One more plus to Simi is that no one will throw better ‘shades’ at the contestants — and they will almost always be deserved.
Tiwa Savage
Afrobeats queen Tiwa Savage is a powerhouse with the type of experience one would expect from a judge. Having Tiwa share her wealth of knowledge in conquering not just the African music scene but also breaking into the international scene having signed a management deal with Roc Nation, will be a dream come true for the lucky contestants who make it into the Y’ello Star hub.
These potential judges have the qualities needed to keep the audience glued to the project and would have great insights to share with the contestants. Presently, MTN Nigeria is yet to confirm the selection of judges, maintaining that the judges will be revealed in due time.
