The late Whitney Houston was given a grand honour at the recently held 2012 Billboard Music Awards which took place on Sunday, May 20, 2012.
The ‘Queen of Pop’ who received the Billboard Millennium Award was honored with a tribute led off by comedian Whoopi Goldberg with performances from singer-songwriter John Legend who rendered Houston’s ‘Greatest love of all’ and R&B singer Jordin Sparks’ engaging version of the classic ‘I will always love you’.
‘I adored Whitney Houston. What all performers want and need and should get is love, and many of us here loved Whitney, and even if you’re one of those who didn’t show the love to Whitney, now is your chance, because tonight, that’s what we’re doing: We’re going to be giving Whitney the greatest love of all’, Whoopi Goldberg said.
The tribute continued with a speech from Whitney’s sister-in-law, Pat Houston and ended with a very emotional message from the singer’s daughter Bobbi Kristina who said ‘I just really want to say thank you to everyone who supported us through it all. Thank you so much for showing that much love, ’cause she deserved it. There will never be another one, ever. I thank you so much’.
The biggest winner of night was recording artist and songwriter Adele who bagged a total of seven awards including ‘Top Artiste of the Year’.
