R&B legend, Percy Sledge who became famous for his 1966 hit song, ‘When A Man Loves A Woman,‘ is dead. The music icon passed away at the age of 73 at his home in Baton Rouge on Tuesday, April 14, 2015 after a long battle with cancer.
Percy, in his lifetime, enjoyed a great career and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2005. His smash hit tune, ‘When A Man Loves A Woman’ was the biggest song of 1966 and the greatest hit of his career. It’s also one of the most covered songs of all time and has featured on several movie soundtracks.
Percy continued to performing the song until 2013, interestingly, April 16, 2015 will mark the 49th anniversary of the release of ‘When a Man Loves a Woman’ but the legend will not be around to celebrate that.
Late Percy is survived by a wife and 12 children.
