The trailer for the movie ‘12 Years A Slave’ was released Monday, July 15, 2013 on YouTube.
The big budget movie features Kenyan actress and producer Lupita Nyong’o, alongside Chiwetel Ejiofor, Brad Pitt, Michael Fassbender, Paul Giamati, Alfre Woodard, among others in an impressive cast line-up.
The Mexican-born Kenyan actress plays the supporting role, Patsey, a slave who is both the object of affection and cruelty of Master Eppin.
The Yale School of Drama graduate is the daughter of a Kenyan politician Anyang’ Nyong’o.
She made her debut in Kenya with her production ‘In My Genes’ and her starring role in Music Television sex education film ‘Shuga’ (2009).
The former Music Network face of Africa beauty is also billed to play a part in Liam Neeson’s airplane thriller Non-Stop’.
The movie, which is based on a true story of one man’s fight for survival and freedom, will be released in October.
In the pre-Civil War United States, Solomon Northup (Chiwetel Ejiofor), a free black man from upstate New York, is abducted and sold into slavery. Facing cruelty (personified by a malevolent slave owner, portrayed by Michael Fassbender), as well as unexpected kindnesses, Solomon struggles not only to stay alive, but to retain his dignity. In the twelfth year of his unforgettable odyssey, Solomon’s chance meeting with a Canadian abolitionist (Brad Pitt) will forever alter his life.
