With masterpieces already beautifying his producer’s reel, celebrated filmmaker, Tunde Kelani is set to release another noteworthy motion picture titled ‘Maami’, an adaptation of Femi Osofisan’s book with the same title which has already been shortlisted for the 2011 African Movie Academy Awards (AMAA). Maami in Yoruba means ‘My mother’.
The movie in celebration of Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola’s re-election premiered at the Agip Recital Hall, Muson Centre in Lagos on Saturday June 4, 2011 where the Governor was also honored for his exemplary style of governance.
‘Maami’ features a household of Nollywood’s skilled professionals like; Funke Akindele, Wole Ojo, Ayomide Abati and Tamilore Kuboye. Reflecting some of his personal life, Kelani shot a huge part of the film in his grandfather’s house where he grew up and also his primary school, Oke-Anu United Primary School, Abeokuta where he used as a location.
Tunde Kelani has been positioning the Yoruba culture for over a decade with classics such as; Saworoide, Thunderbolt, Koseegbe, Arugba, Ti Oluwa Ni Ile Part 1, 2 & 3, Agogo Eewo, Abeni Part 1 & 2, O Le Ku Part 1 & 2, Ayo Ni Mofe Part 1 & 2, The Narrow Path as well as lecturing today’s youth in greatly scripted works like; Yello Card and The Campus Queen.
Maami marks the 16th movie on the invincible filmmaking icon’s reel and it’s already receiving great remarks by fans and critics.

I’ve been waiting ages to see this film – I’m so excited to see Tamilore on the big screen. She’s got to be the greatest star out there today.
