On August 2, 1997, one of the most iconic figures in the music industry, Fela Anikulapo Kuti had passed away. The legend had been a cultural icon since the early 70’s when he created the Afrobeat genre and straddled it like a colossus. As a musician, Fela was unequalled. His music was a delightful fusion of classical music, highlife and traditional African music. The result was a sound like no other and Fela’s fame was global.
