Okosi who is the soul of MTV Networks Africa and multi-platinum selling artiste 2face Idibia were given the prestigious award by the editors of Thisday Newspapers for their ‘contribution to Nigerian arts and culture’.
Both great achievers were earlier nominated in the ‘New Champions for an Enduring Africa’ category alongside UK born actor Chiwetel Ejiofor, media entrepreneur Toyin Subair, award-winning writer Chimamanda Adichie, and celebrated designer Deola Sagoe.
The event which took place on Friday, March 16, 2011 was attended by distinguished guests such as former US president Bill Clinton and the former Governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger who presented the awards to both men.
‘My heartfelt thanks to Thisday’s editors for selecting me for this great award – I am honoured to receive it and to stand in such illustrious company. As a Nigerian I am proud to have played my part in putting Nigerian arts and culture on the global map. My role at MTV Networks Africa has provided me with the opportunity to demonstrate my passion for promoting African youth and music culture and to show the world what Africa can offer. I believe the future of our continent rests on its young people, and I will continue to champion their talent’, Okosi delightfully expressed.
