Speaking with German magazine, AZ Munchen, the former Marseille star, who came third at the 2013 FIFA Ballon d’or award, said: ‘I was really upset. But it’s the same every year: You do not know what you have to do to win this election.
‘Every player needs to know: if Ronaldo and Messi are there, the third player doesn’t have a chance.’
The football star also suggested Bayern Munich stars should consider boycotting the award rather than going there just to take pictures at the awards ceremony which he feels is overly political.
‘When another Bayern player gets nominated, we should have a discussion whether it’s even worth going. What’s the point? To get your picture taken? It’s just politics for me.’
