From his radio days where he was known as the ‘Wild Child’ to his domination of our TV screens as ‘The perfect host’, IK Osakioduwa has cemented his place in the hearts of many Nigerians as a media personality like no other.
Ikponmwosa Osakioduwa, (yes, his name is not Ikechukwu) popularly known as IK, is a Nigerian host and on-air personality, well known for his work with Rhythm 93.7 FM as a presenter and Big Brother Africa as a host. Now IK is not new to hosting which is why we have no problem trusting that Nigerian Idol Season 6 is in good hands.
IK’s presenting experience cuts across several shows and events. He has been the only male host of the AMVCA since 2013. He has also hosted the Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria pageant for 5 years consecutively, Rhythm Unplugged (4 years consecutively), Comedy Club: Live in Lagos (4 years consecutively) and The Voice Nigeria (2 years consecutively). He’s worked on other shows like Mnet’s Studio 53, Temptation Nigeria and Comedy Nites.
Over the years, Nigerian Idol has showcased personalities like Misi Holloway, Anis Holloway, Tiwa Savage and IllRymz as hosts of the show. IK will be joining this exclusive lineup. IK gave Netng a sneak peek into the kind of host he’s going to be on Nigerian Idol. According to him, “Other shows are host driven but when it comes to Nigerian Idol, you’re not a coach. You’re more of backseat support who encourages the contestants and carries the audience along.”
He also mentioned that he’d previously applied as a host for the show but he didn’t get it. “I was excited when I found out I got the job. It’s like a chance to go back. You know when you play video games and you’ve mopped up all the coins at a stage, but you missed a few. Looking back over my career as a presenter, I’ve always felt like this was the one thing I’ve always wanted to do. Now, I get to go back and do it.”
The Nigerian Idol franchise has over the years produced some of the most prominent musicians in Nigeria such as Timi Dakolo, Mercy Chinwo, and Omawumi, who have gone ahead to make a name for themselves in the global music scene. Sponsored by leading soft drink brand, Bigi, Season 6 is set to unearth the next big thing in the African music scene.
